In-form Buffaloes trample Palmerston
THE Darwin Buffaloes continued their impressive start to the 2018-19 NTFL season by overpowering Palmerston last night.
Matt Campbell’s side led from start to finish at TIO Stadium, kicking away late to claim a 13.9 (87) to 5.8 (38) victory.
It wasn’t until Darwin’s best, Jarrod Stokes, kicked his second goal midway through the final quarter that the Buffs secured the four competition points, though.
Kyle Emery and Ian Milera notched the final two goals of the third term to get the Magpies within 15, but the black and whites failed to score another point.
After steamrolling Wanderers in the second half last week, the double blues again finished with all the ascendancy. BEST GOALS
Stokes’s fourth-term major led to another three in quick succession from Adam Sambono, Chris Williams and Ishmael Palmer, which shattered Palmerston’s chances, before a Jalen Clarke effort finished things off.
The Buffs took an 11-point lead into the main break.
They kicked the match’s first three goals, but Palmerston retaliated through majors to Ralph Dhamarrandji and Chris Brown in the second quarter.
The momentum never truly shifted, however.
Sam Talbot was strong for the black and whites in a defensive roll, while ruckman Matt Dennis continued on with his impressive earlyseason form.
Dhamarrandji showed flashes of brilliance with lightning speed, with Milera providing touches of class in his second game.
With the likes of Joe Anderson, Matt Campbell, Cameron Stokes and Kevin Maroney leading the way, though, Darwin proved far too strong.
