Territory tourism shines at Brolgas

LONGTIME champion of Top End tourism Rick Murray has been awarded the highest honour at this year’s Northern Territory Tourism Brolga Awards — the Tourism Minister’s Perpetual Trophy.

Mr Murray is well-known in the local tourism industry, having held roles on the Tourism NT advisory board, the Kakadu Tourism Consultati­ve Committee and the Kakadu National Park Board of Management.

He is also the founder of Odyssey Tours & Safaris and owner of Middle Star tourism consultanc­y.

Acting Minister for Tourism and Culture, Nicole Manison said Mr Murray was a great advocate for regional tourism and Indigenous enterprise developmen­t having also worked as a Director for Nit- miluk Tours and joint venture developmen­ts. Nitmiluk National Park won the Brolga for best Major Tourist Attraction at last night’s awards ceremony. North Australia Yacht Support capped off a great year in business when it was awarded the Tony Clementson New Tourism Product. This follows up its success in this year’s Chief Minister’s NT Export and Industry awards.

A total of 26 businesses and three individual­s were winners at the 2018 Brolga Awards which recognise tourism excellence. The Emerging Aboriginal Tourism Award went to Karrke Aboriginal Cultural Experience and Tour.

Cicada Lodge Restaurant at Nitmiluk Gorge again stepped up to the plate winning the Tourism Restaurant­s & Catering Services. Full list of winners at ntnews.com.au
