THOMAS Snell was just a normal, active 13-year-old when he contracted sepsis, went onto life support and passed away.

In the months after the teen’s death, his family created a foundation, T for Thomas, to raise awareness of the condition. Today his football club, Southern Districts, will play in special guernseys and orange shoelaces.

Thomas’s aunty, and president of the foundation, Yvette Clarke, said the teen was a “humble boy who probably wouldn’t have liked all this attention”.

“The idea of this game is to make everyone aware of the word ‘sepsis’ so that they can find out what it means and if they hear it again, they understand it a little more,” she said. “I don’t want people to feel sad or scared of sepsis. Sepsis is something if you get antibiotics early enough, you can be all right.”

The games will begin at 8.30am today and run all day at Fred’s Pass.
