VOWLES TO MEET COUNCIL
PRIMARY Industry Minister Ken Vowles will sit down with the Top End’s peak land rights body to try to hash out a deal over access to coastal waters this week.
The NT Government has been deadlocked in negotiations with the Northern Land Council over commercial fishing and the NLC has threaten- ed to shut fishers out if a deal is not reached by Tuesday. Mr Vowles told the Sunday
Territorian he had now been invited to attend Tuesday’s meeting where it is hoped common ground can be found.
“The NLC has confirmed its December 4 meeting will still take place,” he said. “I was invited to attend that meeting.”
