PRI­MARY In­dus­try Min­is­ter Ken Vowles will sit down with the Top End’s peak land rights body to try to hash out a deal over ac­cess to coastal wa­ters this week.

The NT Gov­ern­ment has been dead­locked in ne­go­ti­a­tions with the North­ern Land Coun­cil over com­mer­cial fish­ing and the NLC has threaten- ed to shut fish­ers out if a deal is not reached by Tues­day. Mr Vowles told the Sun­day

Ter­ri­to­rian he had now been in­vited to at­tend Tues­day’s meet­ing where it is hoped com­mon ground can be found.

“The NLC has con­firmed its De­cem­ber 4 meet­ing will still take place,” he said. “I was in­vited to at­tend that meet­ing.”
