THOSE with sweet teeth this Christmas need to visit SkyCity as the smell of gingerbread fills the air.

It comes from a large gingerbread village, complete with a model train chugging around the tracks.

The village has taken the SkyCity chefs more than 50 hours to complete and features more than 27kg of gingerbread, 89kg of icing sugar and thousands of lollies for decoration.

Pastry chefs Mary Ann Duco and Mary Ann Santos said the village took a lot of effort. “It’s a celebration of all those fun days from your childhood,” Ms Duco said.

“Our arms are a little sore from the hours and hours kneading but it will all be worthwhile to see the look on people’s faces when they see the finished product.”

The village will be on display in The Vue Restaurant until Boxing Day.
