A MINDFUL BODY AND SOUL IN 2019

- RAPHAELLA SAROUKOS

THE ancient practice of yoga will continue to gain in popularity, according to fitness gurus as more people try to balance their fast-paced, modern lifestyles in 2019.

Agoy Yoga owner Emily Dawson has practised yoga for eight years and said the benefits were more than physical.

“Yoga gives you the tools to self soothe and self heal. It gives you general mindfulness and awareness of breath,” she said. “Yoga is a life science, or the art of living optimally.”

Ms Dawson said beginners were often daunted by yoga because they’re not flexible.

“People think they have to be flexible to do yoga and it’s simply not true. We do yoga to be flexible, we don’t have to start with a flexible body,” she said.

“It’s for everyone that’s why I love yoga. There is a style for everyone and a practice for all ages.”

For Territorians with New Year’s resolutions, Ms Dawson encouraged people of all ages to visit the studio.

She expects an influx of beginners to join classes in the New Year.
