Creepy crawlies abound

DARWIN’S local court often has a number of creepy crawlies come through the doors on a daily basis. However, in the quieter Christmas period a crawly of a different type was seen in Court 1. A gecko was seen scampering across the floor of court but all journos attending that day disappeared to other jobs before seeing what havoc the little reptile caused.

New Year’s kiss a surprise

NT News photo editor Justin Kennedy and journalist Will Zwar were walking the streets on New Year’s Eve, half hoping for a New Year’s kiss. One came Justin’s way, in the shape of a “Territory special” man. Young Will walked away with just one number, from an older bloke. Unfortunately for their counterparts, Justin is happily married to a lovely woman with a six-month-old bub and Will has his eye on the ladies. Better luck next year gents!

Foot-long chief

CHIEF Minister Michael Gunner was spotted at a local Subway getting his lunch during the week. It’s good to see the Chief indulge in the finer things in life with everyday Territorians from time to time.

Gunner reuse containers

While we’re on the subject of Chief Minister

Michael Gunner, it was good to see some of his team sweating it out at the Parap Markets yesterday, selling reusable containers for marketgoers to get their laksa in.

We’ll get back to you

The Government is proving sensitive on all fronts when it comes to media attention. Channel 9 political reporter Kathleen Gaz

zola has managed to include in every news story the number of days Chief Minister Mi

chael Gunner hasn’t been in front of the cameras. But it seems the brittleness of “off message” questions is taking its toll. The Government was all set to make a major stimulus announcement last Thursday when it was called off at the last minute. A few in the media had been tipped off but apparently they couldn’t get a “third party endorsement of the plan”. Bushie wonders if it had anything to do with Opposition Leader Gary Higgins beating them to the punch and the Government not wanting to face the inevitable questions on PR expenditure?

Farewell to Dawn

Channel 9 reporter and Instagram model

Kezia Dawn looks set to leave the Territory. The 24-year-old has reportedly scored herself a job at the 9 News Perth bureau. It’s not the first time reporters from 9 have made the move to Perth. Most recently, Louise

Rennie and earlier Elizabeth Creasy also moved west. Sports reporter Dawn recently made the news as rumours of her dating former Australian cricketer Cameron Ban

croft, who lives in Perth, went public. While it’s not known yet when her final Darwin air date will be, Bushie wishes Dawn every success and hopes 9 Darwin finds an equally sports-enthused reporter to fill her place.

And a merry new year

SOLOMON MP Luke Gosling was spotted at the Cyprus Community Hall’s New Year’s party, along with Deputy Chief Minister Ni

cole Manison and Tourism and Culture Minister Lauren Moss. As he introduced himself to the Greek community, it became apparent the festivities had begun early for the Goose, who was already merry when he arrived at 10.30pm. Bushie hopes Mr Gosling’s New Year’s Day wasn’t too tough.
