Davies wants Roar youngsters to excite

- MARCO MONTEVERDE

INTERIM Brisbane Roar coach Darren Davies has given his team a licence to thrill against A-League high-flyer Perth Glory at Suncorp Stadium tonight.

Unsure how long his tenure will last, Davies wants his struggling side – expected to again feature a host of youngsters – to back itself in attack.

“Until the club decides a way forward, then I just want the boys to go out and express themselves and be associated with a brand of football that I want to be associated with and the club’s DNA is associated with as well,” said Davies, who tonight will be in charge for a third match since the resignation of John Aloisi.

“I don’t know where the club is going forward. I don’t know where I am going forward, so the youngsters, let’s give them opportunities as well.

“It’s got to be proactive football, it’s got to be with a purpose to go forward. Of course we want to get ball down and play when it’s on.”

The three goals the Roar has scored in Davies’ two games in charge have featured a host of passes Brisbane has rarely displayed this season.

Young guns Dane Ingham, Joe Caletti and Aaron Reardon have been given greater game time by Davies, while 20-yearold Nick D’Agostino set up Eric Bautheac’s late equaliser in the Roar’s 2-2 midweek draw with Newcastle Jets at McDonald Jones Stadium.

“The boys are playing with a little bit of freedom. That gives them confidence,” Davies said.
