Glory travelling in style as A-League title looks likely to be heading west

-

PERTH Glory is building a reputation as the A-League’s road warrior and it could help propel the club to title success.

Glory is yet to lose away from home this season and will fancy its chances of taking all three points when it takes on the struggling Brisbane Roar at Suncorp Stadium tonight.

Perth ended 2018 three points clear on top of the table after snaring seven wins and two draws from its first 10 games.

On the road, its record is four wins and a draw from five games.

Perth has only posted three wins and four draws from 20 visits to Suncorp Stadium.

But Glory midfielder Neil Kilkenny said the players have a belief they can win no matter where they play.

“We’re a fit team, we’re well organised, and we’ve got some good players in the final third,” Kilkenny said.

“When they get chances, they score.”

Glory’s 4-1 win over Central Coast last week was significant for several reasons.

Not only did Andy Keogh snap a five-game goalscoring drought with his brace, the team was able to create plenty of attacking opportunities their despite the absence of Socceroo Chris Ikonomidis.

Influential defender Matthew Spiranovic, who had missed a year of action with a hip injury before being cut down by a hamstring complaint, successfully got through his first full game of the season.

And fit-again skipper Diego Castro wasn’t even needed off the bench due to his team’s dominance, giving the 36-year-old extra time to recover from his recent hamstring injury.

Castro is set to be given some game time against the Roar, while defender Shane Lowry is available again after serving his one-match suspension.

While Glory is flying high with only one loss this season, Brisbane Roar is languishing in ninth spot on the A-League ladder with just one win from 11 games.

Roar coach John Aloisi stepped down last week following the horror run of results.

Caretaker Darren Davies guided the side in a 2-1 loss to Sydney and then a 2-2 draw with Newcastle.

The club was in mourning this week after the death in a jet ski accident of former Roar managing director Mark Kingsman.
