Bomber barrage warning to rivals

- JACK HISLOP WANDERERS TIWI

TIWI proved it has the firepower to challenge in March by annihilating Wanderers by 102 points at TIO Stadium yesterday.

The 22.11 (143) to 6.5 (41) win lifted the Bombers into the top five ahead of Palmerston – which faces Waratah today – on percentage, and confirmed their best is good enough to challenge any NTFL team.

Brenton Toy’s men conceded only one goal in the first half, while kicking 10 of their own to take a 58-point lead into the main break.

Pinpoint accuracy by hand and foot when going forward was the catalyst behind the Bombers’ crusade, along with outstanding one-on-one pressure and intensity.

They transitioned from defence to attack with lightning speed, and it proved too much for the Muk Muks to handle.

Toy said he was confident going his side was “going to be on”, with the key a relaxed vibe.

“We know that on our day we are good enough to challenge any side in the competition. That performance really gives us confidence, enthusiasm and belief moving forward,” Toy said.

“We still have our systems, but the key is making sure we appreciate the opportunity that we have been provided to play the game we love so much, and that we enjoy the experience of being out there.” WANDERERS V TIWI BOMBERS BEST 0.2 1.2 4.5 6.5 4.2 10.6 15.9 22.11 GOALS

Adam Tipungwuti found plenty of football as did Ross Tungatalum, who finished with five goals. Ashton Hams was impressive in the middle, while in his 150th game, Austin Wonaeamirri proved a strong presence inside forward 50.

Jason Puruntatameri, Sylvani Babui and Michael Dunn defended hard, and were also the driving forces behind Tiwi’s electric transitions.

The only resistance from Wanderers came early in the third term when they kicked two consecutive majors, but Tiwi took a 70-point lead into the final change.

Thomas Motlop, Aaron Motlop, and Josh Wilson put in solid shifts for the Eagles, but didn’t get too much support. Sixteen-year-old Mark White did impress with two goals.
