Badger a one-woman man

NICK “The Honey Badger” Cummins has been spotted in Darwin this week, sipping a frothie on Tuesday night at Mitchell St favourite Shenannigans. Cummins, who made a few enemies after snubbing the entire cast in the last season of The Bachelor, is no doubt in Darwin to play the odds. Seems Cummins would much prefer to be fighting for a sheila’s attention, not outnumbered by hotties on a TV show.

Apple turnover for NT bar

IT’S official – the Northern Territory is closing down. The bar in New York City, that is. The Australian themed rooftop bar in hipster enclave Brooklyn is going the way of so many fair dinkum NT businesses, it seems. According to a post on a New York bar blog, the establishment will shut down because the building it is housed in is about to be knocked down. But the owners are channelling the #boundlesspossible spirit – they have vowed to reopen eventually in another location.

ABC misses local angle

ABC Darwin has refrained from sending any of its own journalists to press conferences by the visiting leaders, opting instead to rely on the broadcaster’s journalists who are travelling with the campaign caravan. Those journos are sent questions to try to ask the leader by bureaus all around the country. It’s rare any journalist gets any more than a couple of questions in during these tightly managed affairs, so if you want your question asked it’s got to be up the top of the list of priorities. One of Bushy’s spies caught a glimpse of the question list held by an ABC reporter at Scott Morrison’s press conference at Holtze on Wednesday – the local bureau’s questions were very last.

Bad signs for Fyles

DARWIN Council is on a witch hunt to remove any political campaign signage around town that doesn’t comply with council bylaws. Member for Nightcliff Natasha Fyles found herself on the receiving end of the hunt and had her electorate office sign impounded. Turns out it’s not just wannabe pollies in the firing line of council laws, elected members are, too. Ms Fyles had to go to the council office and explain that it was in fact her sign for her office. The impounded sign was eventually returned to her – free of any penalty.

Supremely subdued

BUSHRANGER’S favourite Local Court judge, Greg Cavanagh, displayed a rare moment of restraint in court this week. “It seems to me that the Supreme Court is ... I won’t say any more.”

Conti up to the challenge

WHILE many of the Athletes at the Arafura Games are plying their trade and hoping to use the platform as a stepping stone to bigger and better things, some will be putting on quite a display. Fresh from winning an AFLW Club Best and Fairest with the Western Bulldogs, Monique Conti could be participating in her other love in Darwin, with the 3x3 Pro Hustle Basketball showcase coming to town. Conti, who has been spotted around Darwin last week, could well be in town for the showcase, which would put fear into her opponents with a record that speaks for itself.
