DON DALE CASE SETTLES
Secretive end to court case in which inmates alleged authorities had abused human rights
TERRITORY police are appealing for witnesses in relation to an alleged assault on an 11-year-old girl at the Sea Breeze Festival in Nightcliff.
NT Duty Superintendent James O’Brien said the girl was at the Sunset Park playground on the Nightcliff foreshore about 8.30pm on Friday when she was approached and assaulted. The incident comes a day after a 58-year-old man was charged for allegedly sexually assaulting a girl walking home from school in Gray.
“It’s always disappointing when we receive reports like this and this festival is a family event,” he said.
“We’re calling on anyone who may have seen this male suspect to come forward.”
The offender is described as being of Aboriginal descent, between 150 and 170cm tall and of slim build.
He was wearing a black cap, blue shirt, dark shorts and appeared to be in his late teens or early 20s.
Police are also seeking to speak with anyone who may have photographs or video footage of the Sunset Park area that was obtained between 6pm and 8.30pm on Friday.
Additional police resources will be allocated to the Nightcliff foreshore area throughout the festival.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Police on 131444 or Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.
