NEWS We’re all about a bigger BASS
BASSINTHEGRASS next year will definitely be held at Mindil Beach and may include a third stage, organisers say.
NT Major Events general manager Tim Watsford said the 10,000 event goers at yesterday’s event had been “really, really well behaved”.
“We’re overwhelmingly happy with how it’s all gone,” he said.
Mr Watsford said last year BASSINTHEGRASS attracted just 6100 people and Darwin Amphitheatre — which used to host the annual event — had a capacity of 7000.
He said unless the event moved to a bigger venue, it would never be able to grow.
“We wanted more stages and more acts and there are going to be double ups unfortunately,” he said.
“Our research was pretty strong — people want to see more acts and more music.”
Jem Boardman, who had attended every BASSINTHEGRASS in the last six years, missed the old venue. “Some of the music can be heard from near the other stage,” she said.

TIM WATSFORD tween the stages for event goers. “It’s not too bad — being by the beach is good,” he said.
“But a lot of the bands are on at the same time.”
Looking forward, Mr Watsford said there was some room for improvement with how the event was co-ordinated.
“We’d love to make sure that everyone gets to see every act. From a sound clash perspective there are some logistical challenges, there always are with venues,” he said.
Laura Fletcher is a fan of the Mindil venue.
“This feels a lot more like a festival — like an event interstate,” she said. “There’s space for a lot more people here and there’s more toilets, bars and parking.”
