Blaze closes Stuart Hwy

-

A ROAD train caught fire and forced the closure of the Stuart Hwy for several hours south of Katherine yesterday.

Emergency services were called to battle the blaze just after 11am, approximately 1km north of Mataranka.

An NT Police spokesman said the road train was off the highway. However the road had been closed as a precaution.

“Although the road train is off the road, the Stuart Hwy is currently closed to both north and south bound traffic while the fire is being dealt with,” he said.

“Once the fire has been put out, traffic control will be put into place allowing traffic to flow again.” No one was injured in the fire.
