Card provides discount boost
SENIORS Card is an Australia-wide initiative, supported by Government in each jurisdiction, to provide business discounts to seniors and recognise the valuable contribution that older people have made, and continue to make, for our community.
The Northern Territory Seniors Card (previously managed by Territory Families) has been managed by COTA NT since February 2018.
The NT Seniors Card is free for all Northern Territory permanent residents 60 years or older. The card has no expiry date, it is a lifetime card.
There are currently over 330 participating businesses offering discounts of around 10 per cent to Territory seniors.
NT Seniors Card holders are entitled to free bus travel on the public bus networks in Darwin and Alice Springs and an annual discount of $55 on motor vehicle registration.
In the last year over 100 businesses have been added to the program.
It pays to ask businesses if they offer a discount even if they don’t have a Seniors Card logo on the door, or before making a big purchase to ask if the business offers a discount.
On 12 April, COTA NT launched the NT Seniors Card 2019 Business Discount Directory in Alice Springs in celebration of the 20th anniversary of Seniors Card.
The 2019 Directories is available at Expo, the COTA NT office at Spillett House in Darwin or electoral offices, libraries, local councils and Territory Families shopfronts.
