Second shark sighting

-

THE Sydney beach where a man was attacked by a grey nurse shark on Tuesday has been closed following another shark sighting.

Shelly Beach on Sydney’s northern beaches was closed by the council and lifeguards are patrolling on jet skis after a group of swimmers noticed a grey nurse shark yesterday.

A Northern Beaches Council spokeswoman said the Bold and Beautiful swimming group reported the sighting about 8am.

“We have contacted fisheries and Shelly Beach is closed as precaution,” she said.

“Lifeguards are conducting ongoing jet ski monitoring.”

Pete Schultz – a member of the Bold and Beautiful – was attacked by what was believed to be a grey nurse shark about 5am on Wednesday.

Grey nurse sharks are critically endangered and generally considered harmless.
