Google, Facebook face ACCC heat
GOOGLE and Facebook face five investigations and more could follow in the wake of an inquiry into digital platforms.
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission on Friday released a landmark report which could see a world-first watchdog to ensure the digital giants do not misuse their market power and influence.
Treasurer Josh Frydenberg said the tech giants must be accountable and transparent.
“Make no mistake, these companies are among the most powerful and valuable in the world,” he said. “They need to be held to account.”
The ACCC found a serious issue in the sheer volume of personal data being collected without informed consent.
