Stuck in the mud

THERE’S never a dull day in the Territory. Last Saturday night, St John Ambulance NT paramedics were called out to the Dinah Beach Yacht Club, with reports of someone falling a dangerous distance at the Mega Annual Viking Funeral celebrations. However, when paramedics arrived, they saw three people stuck in mud. Turns out the trapped Territorians needed no medical assistance at all – and were yanked out of the soil by a couple of mates.

Cricket boss’s tough break

WHILE it was good news this week for NT Cricket and the announcement of the BBL in Alice Springs, chief executive Joel Morrison had some unfortunate news of his own. Sporting a cast on his wrist, the big boss has broken three bones in his left hand while going for a catch in a game of cricket. All for a good cause, Mr Morrison sustained the injury in a charity match, unsurprising news given his gentle and friendly nature.

New car security

A BUSHIE spy spotted one soccer mum car heading into the Nightcliff Woolies carpark this week with a child’s soiled nappy hanging in a bag from the tow bar. Bushie reckons it’s an ingenious idea to stop would-be thieves from robbing your car or, you know, to keep the smell outside.

Mango (icy pole) madness

AN unprecedented heatwave in Europe has seen Londoners going troppo this week and it seems the desperate Brits will do anything to beat the heat. As mango madness took hold, UK tabloid Metro warned its readers: “Please, do not put ice lollies into your vagina to cool down.” Good advice for Top Enders to keep in mind as the build-up approaches.

Don’t forget the floaties

IN TODAY’S competitive property market, real estate agents are having to get creative. One agency posted a property on Facebook with a giant inflatable dinosaur featured in each picture. In one it was going down a children’s slide, in another it was sitting in a bath with a glass of wine and in another it was cooking up a feast in the kitchen. Bushie is excited to see what giant, inflatable animals show up next time.

Night a winner

AFTER a controversial lead-up, congratulations must go to Bruce Stalder and FFNT for putting on a great night in Darwin Olympic’s FFA Cup loss. The smell of delicious Greek food wafted throughout the Larrakia Park Stadium. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to get the home side over the line.

Communication people

IN the few hours after the shock announcement of former NT Police Commissioner

Reece Kershaw as the new Australian Federal Police boss, a lack of communication between Police Minister Nicole Manison and NT Police was evident when the two press conferences were scheduled 15 minutes apart – one at Parliament House, the other at NT Police HQ in the NAB building on Smith St. Common sense prevailed, with the latter moving its presser. The lack of communication in the planning is a slight worry for two bodies that should be working hand-inhand.
