“It’s about having an opportunity to mould where a new school is going to go ZUCCOLI PRINCIPAL CAROLYN EDWARDS

PALMERSTON’S newest school has reached a milestone in its construction, receiving a principal.

Carolyn Edwards was appointed principal of Zuccoli Primary School, stage one of which is set to open in term one of 2020.

Ms Edwards has had a successful career in the Territory.

She was principal of Henbury School for the past 10 years and has been recognised as Principal of the Year at the NT Teaching Awards twice.

She was eager to explore the school’s potential.

“I’m really excited. I think it’s about having an opportunity to mould and direct where a new school is going to go,” she said. “As a principal, you don’t often get that chance to go from a greenfield site.”

Stage one of the $29 million project includes a preschool with capacity for 88 students and eight primary school classrooms with capacity for more than 200 students.

Stage two includes shared facilities with the neighbouring Mother Teresa Catholic Primary School, such as a school oval and multipurpose learning facilities.

Construction will begin immediately after the tender is awarded.

Ms Edwards said the school would embrace new methods of teaching.

“We’re going to be looking at digital technologies,” she said.

“We’re going to be looking at those flexible learning spaces so students will be going inside and outside.”

Education Minister Selena Uibo was thrilled to welcome the new principal.

“Carolyn is a highly respected principal in the NT education system with a proven ability to lead,” she said.

“She will be a valuable asset in shaping the new direction of the Zuccoli Primary School.”
