NT News scoops five gongs at NT Media Awards

THE NT News editorial team scooped five awards at the NT Media Awards in Darwin last night.

Phillippa Butt, 25, who is starting as the new Sunday Territoria­n editor next week, was named Marchbanks Young Journalist of the Year.

The NT News newsroom won the best online coverage award for its coverage of the Darwin shootings in June.

Court reporter Jason Walls won the best feature writing award, while former court reporter Craig Dunlop, who has recently relocated to Canberra, won the best news coverage award for his series of stories on the Teacher Registrati­on Board.

Former NT News photograph­er Keri Megelus, who now works in Sydney, won the visual storytelli­ng award for her photo of accused gunman Ben Hoffmann being arrested on the night of the Darwin shootings.

ABC journalist Oliver Gordon was named the 2019 Journalist/ Photojourn­alist of the Year. He was acknowledg­ed for his ABC Background Briefing investigat­ion “The Black and White Hotel; Inside Australia’s Segregated Hotel Rooms” and associated coverage into racial profiling at a hotel in Alice Springs.
