Crash driver eludes cops
POLICE remain on the lookout for a driver who dodged a breath test yesterday morning before leading officers on a chase through a northern Darwin suburb.
An NT Police spokeswoman said the vehicle took off after trying to avoid being breathalysed at an RBT station in the early hours of the morning.
“At about 5.18am, a white Nissan X-Trail failed to stop at an RBT in Malak,” she said.
“A police pursuit was initiated with the vehicle actively avoiding police travelling at speed before crashing into a tree.”
The spokeswoman said after the crash the driver managed to escape police on foot.
“The driver, and single occupant, of the vehicle fled the scene,” she said.
“Inquiries to positively identify the driver of the vehicle have been unsuccessful.”
