Crash driver eludes cops

PO­LICE re­main on the look­out for a driver who dodged a breath test yes­ter­day morning be­fore lead­ing of­fi­cers on a chase through a northern Dar­win sub­urb.

An NT Po­lice spokes­woman said the ve­hi­cle took off af­ter try­ing to avoid be­ing breathal­ysed at an RBT sta­tion in the early hours of the morning.

“At about 5.18am, a white Nissan X-Trail failed to stop at an RBT in Malak,” she said.

“A po­lice pur­suit was ini­ti­ated with the ve­hi­cle ac­tively avoid­ing po­lice trav­el­ling at speed be­fore crash­ing into a tree.”

The spokes­woman said af­ter the crash the driver man­aged to es­cape po­lice on foot.

“The driver, and sin­gle oc­cu­pant, of the ve­hi­cle fled the scene,” she said.

“In­quiries to pos­i­tively iden­tify the driver of the ve­hi­cle have been un­suc­cess­ful.”
