Lasker charges face powerful challenge in main event

Maher feels the love

EVEN with the welcome recent deluge the Winnellie Park track will be in good order for a program that has nine quality greyhound races to be decided tonight.

The main event is the Holdfast Insurance Brokers Sprint over the testing 537m distance.

This race does have only the five runners and trainer Andrew Lasker would be confident his charges Betty Turpin and He’s All Grunt in particular should prove hard to beat.

They would want to be at their best all the same going on promising up-and-comer Delerra’s recent win over this trip last Wednesday.

She won impressively and even up in grade tonight will make her presence felt for Graeme Scott.

The last event on the program again provides a quality race for the Darwin Greyhound Association’s top sprinters over 383m, which oozes quality including the likes of Go Brandi and Weeona Wendy for Russell Savige.

However, they will need to bring their best form as Leta Smith would be keen on her runners Prior Warning and Balkan Babe.

Both must be genuine contenders.

Ron Phillips has started 2020 off well and again he could be in for a good night as the likes of Matilda Road in race three, the exciting Coco Jumbo in race six and the progressive Bowden in race seven look to have good chances in their respective races.

Other notable chances on the night include Whisper Quick in race one for Chris Field, and kennelmates Quetzalli in race two and promising youngster Great Knock in race five for Scott.

First race is set down for 6.20pm NT time.

CO-TRAINER Ciaron Maher struggled to think of a more satisfying win in his career after Away Game won the Magic Millions 2YO Classic.

Away Game ($41) won like a favourite, beating Stellar Pauline ($17) by 1¾ lengths.

“I really believed on her trackwork she was ready to fire in this race,” Maher said. “It is certainly one of the most satisfying moments of my career.”
