Mayor facing heat
QUEENSLAND’S corruption watchdog has made blistering findings against Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate.
The Crime and Corruption Commission has made multiple referrals to the Office of the Independent Assessor after an investigation into Gold Coast City Council.
Key findings relate to Mr Tate and Wayne Moran, his chief of staff and former election campaign manager.
The Commission found Mr Moran interfered in council business and failed to properly declare conflicts of interest.
When the council’s chief executive, Dale Dickson, tried to step in he was blocked by Mr Tate, and that action could amount to misconduct, according to the CCC.
It also found Mr Tate spent thousands of dollars in excess of council allocations.
