It’s time to shine

- Lia Finocchiaro is the NT Opposition Leader

LIA FINOCCHIARO

I MADE three commitments to Territorians in my first act as incoming Opposition Leader. These commitments bring certainty to Territorians who are doing it tough.

1. A CLP Government will keep Power Water, Territory Generation and Jacana Energy in public hands, and will fix residential power and water prices at 2020 levels.

2. No government assets will be sold or leased.

3. Public service jobs are safe with a CLP Government. The Territory’s public service are valued, respected and essential.

These are firm, unwavering commitments for our first four years of government, and I made them because I want Territorians to know that I take these commitments seriously, and will stand by them.

Between now and this year’s election, there will be scare campaigns, but these commitments are a very firm line in the sand so that Territorians can have confidence in their future.

These decisions give certainty to Territorians.

We know your hard-earned money is better off spent in our communities, going out for dinner, at our struggling cafes, and enjoying a day out, rather than funnelling it away for an unexpected power or water bill. We don’t want cost of living to increase for Territorians, so giving you more of your own money to spend how you want was our first priority.

Our attention will also be on growing the private sector.

Only a CLP Government understands how important local businesses are, and that everything government does should support and grow our collective opportunity and prosperity.

We will deliver a shared vision and partnership between government and the private sector, because with that comes jobs, population growth, and a stronger economy.

My government will respect and value our public service.

This vast resource of passionate Territorians are the enablers of growth, our front line, and our help line.

Let’s collectively embrace their role in the economy and our community and together commit to building a brighter future for all.

As the CLP Opposition Leader, I will lead our new team of candidates to restore trust and faith in Territory politics, and deliver a vision for the future.

Of course, this could only come about through the incredible efforts of Gary Higgins.

Together, Gary and I have worked tirelessly over the past three-and-a-half years to rebuild as a party and reconnect with Territorians.

Our candidates are a direct result of this work – fresh, motivated and committed Territorians.

We know you’re looking forward to seeing more of the CLP’s policies, and they will come after we announce the remaining candidates this month.

Our conversations with Territorians are ongoing, and they are solely focused on how we can make your lives better, safer and full of opportunity.

The Territory deserves a better option and a brighter future.

2020 marks the start of the Territory’s decade to shine, and with our candidates, I’m looking forward to giving Territorians a clear choice at the election.

Together, we can get the Territory growing again.
