Needle in a Haystack Street Bistro

- ALICIA PERERA

A popular Nightcliff pop-up restaurant is about to reopen for a new year of business with a fresh focus on showcasing high-quality local produce and tapas-style dining.

In a new approach, Needle in a Haystack Street Bistro will pare back its dishes to make in-season local ingredients the star and plate up smaller share plates instead of main meals throughout 2020.

Its menu will continue to change from week to week.

The business has also done away with its previous preorder system in favour of a ‘first come first served’ approach.

Martin Wildman said his team was aiming to better showcase the “amazing” local produce available in Darwin.

“It’s the same kind of modern Australian-style food that’s very local and seasonal in what it is, and the processes that go into everything are just as complex, but it will be simpler in the amount of things that are on the plate,” he said.

“We just want to deliver something that’s showing local produce the best it can be, when it’s in season. “

Needle in a Haystack reopens on Wednesday.
