Labor man in kid porn case dies

-

A FORMER assistant secretary of the Victoria Labor Party has been found dead weeks before he was due to front court on child sex charges.

Andres Puig, credited with helping Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews win office in 2014, was recently charged with producing and possessing child pornography.

The 44-year old was due to appear in court in April but Labor sources have confirmed Puig died on Friday night, hours after he learned a newspaper planned to publish his alleged offences.

In a statement, Victoria Police said the death was not being treated as suspicious.

“Police had charged a 44year-old East Melbourne man with enter agreement for child sex services and produce and possess child pornography,” it said. “The charges related to alleged offences in 2019. He was bailed and due to appear in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 16 April, 2020.

“Police are now preparing a report for the coroner following the man’s death in East Melbourne on Friday night”.

The Australian yesterday reported Puig had been charged and was due in court after an investigation which ramped up last October.
