Time for justice

DARWIN defence lawyer Tom Anderson had to momentarily break the formalities of a court proceeding that dragged on for longer than expected this week. While defending his client in Darwin’s Local Court, he noticed the time and interrupted proceedings to ask presiding judge John Neill: “Can I seek an indulgence to turn my phone on? I need to text my daughter that she’ll have to catch an Uber because I won’t be able to pick her up at 5 o’clock.”

A taste of home

PEOPLE who move to Australia from overseas often miss the everyday delights of their home country. One local took it upon themselves to bring their homeland to Australia. While Bushie was collecting the mail, he saw a woman picking up a monstrous and sticky package – 19kg of Greek honey. Luckily for them honey has no expiry date, but Bushie doubts it’ll take long to smash through the delicacy.

Injury thwarts goal

VETERAN five-a-side footballer and ABC mornings host Adam Steer is facing an extended period on the sidelines after tearing his meniscus. Steer had been wearing a guard on his knee in his most recent appearances. Steer had only just made several appearances in the A-grade Monday competition at Top End Multi Sport in Coconut Grove. Several media types, many years his junior, currently sit close to the bottom of the league in the Monday B-Grade competition and would never contemplate such a bold move into the premier competition. The step up in class, however, hasn’t helped his goal scoring record, which one social soccer pundit described as “unproductive”.

Poor investment

WE wonder whether ousted Michael Gun

ner chief of staff Alf Leonardi, who has now been caught up in the $12 million turf club grandstand saga, will be asking for some money back from Territory Labor. The electoral returns released on Friday showed Leonardi donated $1708.50 to the party between July and December last year. He got sacked from Gunner’s office in August. Refund anyone?

Snapping the intern

NT News photographer Glenn Campbell found himself locked out of the building this week. After being informed, tongue in cheek, that he’d been barred, Campbell responded with a slightly ominous text message: “I have the intern”. Bushie is happy to report the aspiring hack was returned safely to her desk, though the mental scars from spending the morning vox popping with the colourful snapper may well last a lifetime.

Ballot draw’s a gas

MOMENTS before the Johnston by-election ballot draw at the Northern Territory Electoral Commission, in a room full of political hopefuls and dignitaries, a loud farting sound was heard. All eyes turned to a man desperately trying to silence his phone as he apologetically turned to the room and exclaimed “Sorry all... my son has changed my ringtone again”. Quick thinking, blaming the kids.
