Mum’s big dream is cut cruelly short

-

A PALMERSTON motherof-two killed in a horror Valentine’s Day crash has been remembered as a loving wife and mother who dreamt of becoming a permanent resident and raising her two young daughters in Australia.

Evelin Kwok, 34, was driving to the aged care home where she worked to start the night shift when she was involved in a head-on collision with another car on Roystonea Ave just before 11pm. She died at the scene. Ms Kwok’s husband Weikai (Kevin) Lee said his wife, who was originally from Taiwan, had been a wonderful partner and mother and a hardworking nurse.

“Evelin is a mum of two girls, one is turning six in April and one is turning two next month,” he said.

“She worked in a nursing home as a nurse. She was very compassionate about her work and clients.

“Even though she worked overnight shifts, she still spent time with the girls before they went to bed as well as on her day off.”

Mr Lee broke the news to his older daughter who wouldn’t stop crying.

He said his wife’s dream had been to live in Australia, and she had been on the cusp of receiving her permanent residency.

“She saw Australia (as) her home as she has spent 10 years here and she believed it’s the best place for her daughters to grow up,” he said. “(A) few months ago, she got the sponsorship from NT Government … she was so excited about it.”

In a post on Facebook, Mr Lee said: “Sorry I didn’t talk to you for Valentine’s Day. I won’t have a chance to talk to you later. It’s my fault.”

Colleague Kelly Anne James wrote on Facebook: “Just devo. Rip beautiful girl. You will be missed at work, Still can’t believe this.”

In a statement, All Fence & Gates – the company Mr Lee works for – wrote: “The management and staff at All Fence & Gates are saddened by the tragic death of Evelin. Our thoughts and prayers are with Kevin and their two beautiful children.”

A GoFundMe page has been set up to assist Ms Kwok’s family with funeral expenses and other support.
