VALENTINE’S DAY TRAGEDY
Mum-of-two and young man killed in horror crash
THE 20-year-old man also killed in the horror crash on Roystonea Ave has been remembered as a good mate.
Friends took to social media yesterday to mourn the loss of the young man, who died after a head-on collision.
Major Crash Investigation Unit acting Sergeant Rhys Studders said the man had been in a dark grey Toyota Corolla and travelling on the wrong side of Roystonea Ave when he collided with a white Hyundai sedan.
A 21-year-old passenger in the car was pulled from the flaming wreckage by witnesses and taken to the Royal Darwin Hospital but the driver was trapped behind the wheel.
He was extracted from the vehicle by Fire and Rescue but later died at the scene.
On Facebook, friends mourned their loss.
“To get back from a good night and to hear that you have unfortunately left us is f*cked, love you my brother will always be in my heart,” wrote Mitchell Adcock.
“I love you man!” Meghan Hare posted. “Rest In Peace angel".
“R.I P Mate … Condolences to the Family,” Bonni RyanSmith wrote. “Sending Healing Love and Light to All.”
“RIP beautiful, you will be missed at work,” wrote colleague Mandeep Ladher.
“Rest In Peace Brother,” Callum Black posted.
At the crash scene yesterday morning, the two badly damaged cars had come to rest on either side of the road and debris was strewn across the bitumen between them.
It is understood the Toyota Corolla may have been travelling at high speed when the two cars collided, though police are investigating a range of factors.
Acting Sgt Studders urged anyone with any information to contact police.
“If anyone saw either vehicle prior to the crash, or was in the area at the time, we urge them to come forward and speak to police,” he said. “If anyone has dashcam footage showing the vehicles prior to the crash, then we’d really like to see that.”
The incident is the latest in a horror week on Territory roads, which has also seen a 57-year-old woman killed in a four-car crash on Tiger Brennan Drive and a motorcyclist found dead after a single vehicle crash in Weddell.
It brings the NT road toll so far this year to five.
IF ANYONE SAW EITHER VEHICLE PRIOR TO THE CRASH, OR WAS IN THE AREA AT THE TIME, WE URGE THEM TO COME FORWARD. SERGEANT RHYS STUDDERS
