Heat winners among leading contenders as main event challenge hots up

- GREG ALDAM

THERE are 11 races to be contested at Winnellie Park tonight, with the SBA Office National Restricted Dash over 312m for the Grade 5 greyhounds the main event.

After two heats were keenly contested last week, with the first four from each heat going through to tonight’s final, there does not appear to be a lot between the field.

The heat winners in Aeroplane Rose for Graeme Scott, who has box one, and Crocodile Flow for Steele Bolton who won in a quicker time, are both leading contenders.

They will need to be at their best as the likes of Rockabye Demi for Russell Savige, who should appreciate the outside draw, Sunset Licorice for Graeme Ferns and also Aeroplane Milly for in-form trainer Richard Carr also have claims.

To start the night, Hawk

Glide has been a strong competitor over a period of time at and he has not been far away of late for Ferns in the open sprint over 312m.

Bolton has his growing team racing well and he has other great chances on the program.

They include Cawbourne

Dixie in race three, Choice Way in race four and in race 10 he has six of the seven runners with the Savige-trained Lemon Drop being his only opposition.

Other notable chances on the night include Uno Slipper in race four for Andrew Lasker and the 383m journey will suit, Fuse Box for Greg Milne is nicely graded in race six and to finish the night the Ron Phillips-trained Coco Jumbo has the ability to get back in the winners’ circle from box one.

The first race is at 6.11pm NT time and all races are live on Sky Channel.
