Vic crooks be­ing hit with fines

CROOKS are cop­ping a double whammy from po­lice, be­ing fined for breach­ing so­cial dis­tanc­ing rules when they’re caught com­mit­ting crimes.

Po­lice handed out an­other 55 fines for those breach­ing the state’s stage three re­stric­tions, in­clud­ing peo­ple charged with as­sault, weapon and drug of­fences. Groups are also con­tin­u­ing to flout the law, in­clud­ing five friends who were caught hav­ing a party in Melbourne’s north­west.

Emer­gency laws have been passed and an in­ves­ti­ga­tion is un­der way into a coro­n­avirus out­break at a Melbourne psy­chi­atric fa­cil­ity, with the Govern­ment warning the pan­demic is far from over.

Four­teen COVID-19 cases have been con­nected to Al­bert Road Clinic, a pri­vate 80-bed psy­chi­atric fa­cil­ity run by Ram­say Health Care.

Vic­to­ria’s chief health of­fi­cer Brett Sut­ton said the clinic had ef­fec­tively been shut down.
