Flight brings Aussies home

MORE than 150 Aus­tralians stranded in South Amer­ica since the coro­n­avirus out­break are be­ing brought home on a res­cue flight, with one of the pi­lots pay­ing trib­ute to his World War II vet­eran grand­fa­ther on Anzac Day.

Qan­tas cap­tain Nick Thorne will proudly have on the flight deck a pho­to­graph of the late Keith Thorne, who sur­vived the sink­ing of SS Som

er­set and HMAS Canberra, and a kamikaze at­tack on HMAS

Aus­tralia.

There are also 20 New Zealan­ders on board the 15-hour flight.
