Treasured shop reopens doors

-

ONE of Darwin’s leading recycling businesses has reopened after being forced to temporarily shut due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Helping People Achieve’s (HPA) Trash & Treasure shop at the Shoal Bay Waste Management Facility went back to business last week.

Trash & Treasure takes items such as furniture and exercise equipment and rehomes them, with all profits going to work opportunities and improving services for Territorians with disabilities.

HPA chief executive Tony Burns was thrilled to reopen the shop and to have its contract renewed by the City of Darwin for three years.

“To be able to have this extension ... just gives us that security to put some really amazing processes in place and also employ some amazing people,” he said.

Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis said HPA had transformed the facility into a trash and treasure shop the community fully supported.
