THE premise of creator Vicky Jones’ new comedy-thriller is set out in the first two minutes. Merritt Wever’s Ruby Richardson, an architect suffocating in suburbia, receives a text message with just one word … RUN. Heart racing and breath heaving, she texts the same word back and hot-foots it to New York City to honour a pact made with her former college boyfriend Billy (Domhnall Gleeson), who is now a self-help guru whose own life is a mess. When the two meet on the first train after 5pm out of Grand Central Station the sexual chemistry they once had is immediate and electric, but it’s not long before whatever issues that led them to part in the first place come bubbling back to the surface. Weaver and Gleeson have a genuine spark and there are plenty of laugh-out-loud moments.
