QLD DUO COMBINES FOR TWO DARWIN VICTORIES

- NATHANIEL CHAMBERS

QUEENSLAND trainer Kelvin Hickmott enjoyed the spoils of Fannie Bay when his stable picked up two winners in Prince Planet and Call Me Legend yesterday.

Prince Planet, winning for the first time in Darwin from two starts, ran from the outside gate, with jockey Terry Treichel taking out the feature racefour $18,500 Welcome to the Dry Handicap (1100m).

The six-year-old gelding made gains over early favourites Phil Cole’s Looking For You and Chris Pollard’s Twilight Maneuver to salute.

And that wasn’t the only success for the duo of Hickmott and Treichel, with the pair also winning in the race three Bet365 TROBIS Maiden (1100m) with three-year-old Call Me Legend.

The youngster had narrowly missed out on winning in both of his previous starts in Darwin, but finally came away with a result after significant pressure from Garry Lefor Jr’s Crazy Lad.

“It was great to get the win with Prince Planet, particularly after getting the win with Call Me Legend in the previous race,” Hickmott told the Sunday Territorian.

“He had an outside alley but jumped really well with Terry able to ease him. There he sat outside the leader comfortably and was too strong going into the finish.

“(Call Me Legend) ran well and I thought he would take it after his previous results. Terry has been a great jockey for a number of years who has rode a lot of winners. He’s going to be my jockey while I’m up here and that’s a big advantage for us.”

Other winners at Fannie Bay yesterday were Extolment (trainer Emma Steel, jockey Jarrod Todd) and Escondido (Gary Clarke, Kim Gladwin).
