Focus on future of East Point
A PROPOSED East Point Advisory Committee would give more voice to organisations and stakeholders on the reserve.
Alderman Andrew Arthur will bring the concept to council on Tuesday night, saying 12 organisations needed more of a say on issues at the reserve, with many opposing views of how it can be best used.
“The reserve is subject to a range of interacting management concerns which are influenced by the values and uses of the area,” he said.
“There is a wide range of stakeholders, many with conflicting priorities.”
Alderman Arthur said stakeholders often used the reserve for recreation, education and history, through the Darwin Military Museum.
“This emphasises the need for an Advisory Committee that will meet up to four times a year to facilitate communications between stakeholders and consolidate a future vision for this iconic reserve,” he said.
Elected members will vote on the proposal at Tuesday night’s council meeting.
