PUPPY love is driving demand for designer dogs with desperate animal-lovers paying up to $8500 for furry lockdown companions.

Wanted advertisements on social media and classified websites are begging for hardto-find breeds like cavoodles, toy poodles and moodles – a cross between a Maltese and a poodle.

Show dog breeder and exprofessional dog handler Jarrod Tyler said there had been a “significant” surge in inquiries for puppies with hopeful buyers willing to spend thousands.

“At the moment you have 10 people wanting five puppies,” Mr Tyler said.

An analysis of advertisements on online trading websites shows cavoodles selling for an average $6000, as are King Charles cavalier puppies.

French bulldogs are selling for at least $6000 but one advertisement is asking for a whopping $8500.

Toy poodles sold for at least $5000.
