Stolen taxi chase ends in flames

A STOLEN taxi chase ended with a woman in hospital after the car was found crashed into a pole.

About 5.30am yesterday, NT Police received a report that a taxi driver had been assaulted and had his taxi stolen in Coconut Grove.

Using taxi tracking technology, police found the vehicle and began a pursuit along Dick Ward Drive, before losing sight of the car.

A short time later, police found the taxi had struck a pole and run off the embankment on Dick Ward Drive near Douglas Street, Ludmilla. A woman was found underneath the car with head injuries, and was removed just before the car burst into flames. She was taken to the Royal Darwin Hospital in a stable condition. A crime scene was declared and the Major Crash Investigat­ion Unit and Strike Force Trident was investigat­ing.
