Stolen taxi chase ends in flames

A STOLEN taxi chase ended with a woman in hos­pi­tal after the car was found crashed into a pole.

About 5.30am yes­ter­day, NT Po­lice re­ceived a re­port that a taxi driver had been as­saulted and had his taxi stolen in Co­conut Grove.

Us­ing taxi track­ing tech­nol­ogy, po­lice found the ve­hi­cle and be­gan a pur­suit along Dick Ward Drive, be­fore los­ing sight of the car.

A short time later, po­lice found the taxi had struck a pole and run off the em­bank­ment on Dick Ward Drive near Dou­glas Street, Lud­milla. A woman was found un­der­neath the car with head in­juries, and was re­moved just be­fore the car burst into flames. She was taken to the Royal Dar­win Hos­pi­tal in a sta­ble con­di­tion. A crime scene was de­clared and the Ma­jor Crash In­ves­ti­ga­tion Unit and Strike Force Tri­dent was in­ves­ti­gat­ing.
