Darwin hosts the rich and famous

- GARY SHIPWAY

SINCE repatriation flights to the Northern Territory began on October 23 last year 6487 international arrivals have undertaken quarantine at the Howard Springs Centre for National Resilience.

Among them has been an array of “very famous people” one Howard Springs staffer told the Sunday Territorian.

“We have had thousands of people come in from overseas and people would be surprised at just who some of these people have been,” said the staffer, who would not reveal names.

However we do know that Australian pop star and former Miley Cyrus boyfriend Cody Simpson has been one of the many to most recently spend 14 days in quarantine in Darwin.

Simpson jetted into Darwin so that he could be at the Australian Swimming Titles on the Gold Coast. The former junior age swim champion has his sights set on competing for Australia at the Tokyo Olympics.

“Happy to be back at home and in the place I love most,” Simpson said.

“Stoked to be around some amazing swimming this week at Australian Championships. Not racing much as I just got out of a two-week quarantine. But glad to be getting some feel and fitness back slowly!”

Despite this, the pop star’s buff body captured plenty of attention.

Olympic swimmer Emily Seebohm was spotted with Cody on

Wednesday during a swimming session.

Seebohm called the singer a “star” in Australia and all over the world saying he showed amazing courage to get back in the water after his music career.

“He’s had this amazing opportunity with his singing and for him to realise that he wants to do this other thing that he’s really loved doing since he was young is a really brave thing to do,” she said.

Seebohm added she was ‘stoked’ to see how the singer performed in the water.

So who else has slipped quietly into Darwin? We know Illy quarantined here ahead of his performance at the Rebound festival.

But there has been a bigger running list of A-list stars turning up in Australia.

The question is who among them did Darwin play host to?

Mark Wahlberg was in Australia to film an ad. Matt Damon was also here. Luther actor Idris Elba is in Sydney filming Three Thousand Years of Longing.

Hollywood actor Melissa McCarthy recently joined the cast of Thor and has professed her love for Australia

Sacha Baron Cohen and Isla Fisher are in Australia while Isla films the Aussie animated flick Back To The Outback with Netflix.

Natalie Portman is currently living in Australia.

Ed Sheeran flew to Australia to attend the funeral of Australian music titan Michael Gudinski.
