RESIDENTS WARNED TO TAKE ACTION AS FIRES RAGE

-

RESIDENTS in the Darwin rural area were warned to take action to protect their families as an out of control blaze burned on Saturday.

Bushfires NT issued a Watch and Act for the Rum Jungle area about 2.30pm.

A fire was spreading on one or more fronts and effective containment strategies were not in place for the entire perimeter.

But by 7.30pm the advice had been downgraded.

Bushfires NT also issued alerts for residents in Herbert, Gunn Point and Marrakai, urging them to be aware of fires in their areas.

Those alerts were not upgraded throughout the day.

The alerts came a day after fires tore through properties in Humpty Doo amid drier weather and strong winds.

While no homes were lost on Friday, some sheds and cars were destroyed.
