DESERT TO INSPIRE TUNES

- JUDITH AISTHORPE

A POWERFUL collection of singers from the Red Centre will take to the stage on Sunday night to share songs inspired by life in the desert.

Red Desert, Endless Sky will feature songs written by songstress XAVIA; Resin Moon – the electronic incarnation of producer, songwriter and multiinstrumentalist Dave Crowe; Western Aranda singer Casii Williams; and singer/songwriters Paul Ah Chee and Bambadino.

Xavia, a live looping cellist and singer, said her music was inspired by harsh landscape.

“For anyone who hasn’t visited Central Australia when they first come here what’s really striking is the landscape and how vast the views are and sky is, hence the name of the show,” she said.

“The desert is such a fruitful place and it’s a beautiful creative place, it’s a great place to make music.” The Alice Sings Choir, known for belting out great tunes and collaborating with other Territory artists will also head to Darwin to accompany the artists. The show is at the Inpex Sunset Stage Sunday August 8 at 9pm.
