FEEDING BUB A TEAM EFFORT

- NATHANIEL CHAMBERS

WORLD Breastfeeding Week has presented a key opportunity to remind NT families of the team effort required to achieve breastfeeding success.

One Darwin family has embraced the idea of working together to achieve the best outcomes for their newborn son, Nick.

Darwin parents Nigel and Artemis Doyle have three older children, providing the couple with the knowledge on how to work together when it comes to breastfeeding.

“I help by doing simple things before feeding such as changing the nappy so the baby is comfortable,” Mr Doyle said. “And afterwards by taking the baby for a cuddle/ burp to enable mother to rest.”

RDH lactation consultant and midwife Louise Prescott said there was plenty of support for mothers and families.

“We give them information on how to establish breastfeeding and manage problems when they arise,” she said.

“Support continues through birth and the post-natal period and help is given to establish breastfeeding and understand their baby’s feeding needs.”
