Mums-to-be blood test
A BLOOD test to detect lifethreatening placenta accrete spectrum (PAS) disorders in mums-to-be may have been developed by researchers. PAS disorders occur when the placenta grows too deeply into the wall of the uterus during pregnancy and fails to detach during childbirth, sometimes leading to the mother’s death. University of California researchers created a chip to detect cells in the blood of the mums-to-be, and increased levels could mean PAS.
