THE VIKINGS CAME, THEY CONQUERED

- NATHANIEL CHAMBERS

THE Vikings have officially returned.

Storming into the Dinah Beach Cruising Yacht Association, thousands dressed up, liquored-up and partied at arguably one of Darwin’s biggest costume parties of the year.

The sold-out event featured live music performed by the Bloody Marys while the Darwin and Districts Pipes and Drums led the main procession, and, of course, there was a tribute Viking vessel burning.

DBCYA general manager Wendy McCallum was thrilled to have the sellout event back after it was unable to go ahead in 2020.

“It’s a rip-roaring, merry night for us all with fantastic live music and great crowds,” Ms McCallum said.

“It’s great to have it back. We didn’t get to do it last year but the whole club is behind it with volunteers helping put everything together.”

Lauren Lester, who herself has a Norwegian background, said she and her husband Jack were representing her family.

“It’s a good excuse to get into a costume and dress up,” she said.

Wayne Langworthy, a big Vikings fan, recently moved to Darwin and said the event was “great fun” and a great introduction to a Top End party.
