SWANS ON END OF A SCARE
A SECOND-HALF resurgence from North Melbourne gave Sydney a scare as the
Swans took out an unconvincing 13.13 (91) to 12.5 (77) win at Marvel Stadium.
The Kangaroos – who had won the third fewest final quarters this season – came hard at the usually fastfinishing Swans.
David Noble’s men cut a 22-point three-quarter time deficit to under a goal within 10 minutes, with two those goals coming off the boot of impressive first-year forward Eddie Ford.
Without managed superstar Lance Franklin, Will Hayward (17 disposals, 11 marks and 3.3, pictured) proved to be the Xfactor for the Swans. And mercurial Joe Daniher delved into his occasionally amazing technicolour dreamcoat to help Brisbane claim a thumping 22.10 (142) to 8.9 (57) thrashing of Collingwood at the Gabba. The Lions were too big, too strong, too classy, too often after quarter-time, kicking 14 goals across the second and third terms.
