LEAGUE’S BEST RATED

- EMMA GREENWOOD

THE loss of Melbourne Big Bash sides the Stars and Renegades due to Covid could have been a hammer blow to the T20 Strike League in Darwin. But plenty of players showed they have the skill to make the transition to the next level.

We take a look at seven of the best from matches over the past fortnight.

Josh Kann – Southern Storm KANN showed why there has been so much interest from the Hobart Hurricanes with an outstanding T20 Strike League series with both the bat and ball.

He finished second on the batting standings with 175 runs from five innings at an average of 35 and captured seven wickets.

His 55 (39 balls), key wicket of opener Dylan Hunter and two quality catches in the final helped the Storm snare the title and showed he deserved his chance at the next level.

Nick Larkin – City Cyclones LARKIN topped the batting table, with 225 runs at an average of 56.25.

But he will be remembered for one innings in particular in Darwin – an amazing 106 not out off 43 balls, including six sixes – that handed the Cyclones an unlikely finals berth.

Jason Sangha – Northern Tide PRACTICALLY a veteran at only 21, Sangha averaged almost 50 in his four innings and picked up some handy wickets with his leg spinners.

Hayden Kerr – Desert Blaze

A FULL winter in the Top End, playing the Strike League one-day competition, Top End one-day series and the T20 Strike League has shown his all-round skill, with the 25-yearold finishing among the best in the league in the batting and bowling figures in efforts that should have NSW officials knocking his door down.

Tom Andrews – Desert Blaze TERRITORIAN Andrews left to return to Tasmania after only two T20 Strike League games, but his performances were very impressive.

His six wickets were enough to put him in third place on the bowling ladder.

Chris Tremain – Desert Blaze

FORMER one-day international quick Tremain picked up only three wickets in the T20 Strike League, all of them coming in the Blaze’s first match against the Cyclones.

But it was the presence of the big fast bowler that was outstanding for those around him.

Tremain enjoyed his role as a mentor to the next generation of stars.

Blade Baxter – Southern Storm THE Melbourne quick topped the bowling figures in the T20 Strike League and Strike League one-day competitions.
