Funds to help Cox Peninsula

- THOMAS MORGAN

A CONTRACT has been awarded to build an upgrade at the intersection of Cox Peninsula Road and Darwin River Road.

The NT government will spend $1m to upgrade the intersection, including widening of the road, a dedicated right turning lane into Darwin River Road, better drainage and lighting.

Works are slated to commence this month and finish by the end of the year.

The road is located in the seat of Daly, which is in the middle of a by-election.

Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics Minister Eva Lawler said the project would improve road safety.

“The Cox Peninsula Road is an important connection for Territorians living in the Daly area, along with tourism and businesses in the region,” Ms Lawler said.

“The Territory government has allocated $220m in Budget 2021 for road safety projects and we are getting on with it.”

The CLP has also vowed to improve Cox Peninsula Road if elected, meeting with locals last week on the project.
