England blow as Stokes to bypass Ashes
ENGLAND all-rounder Ben Stokes is reportedly “increasingly unlikely” to play in the Ashes series as he manages his mental health and recovery from a finger injury.
Stokes withdrew from England’s Test series with India in August and September for mental health reasons, while he wasn’t picked for the T20 World Cup.
He has not played in any format since late July.
Stokes has “made progress” on his mental health but will probably return to action in England’s tour of the West Indies early next year, which is “considered a more likely time for his international return”.
England players are to be informed this month of the quarantine and biosecurity protocols for the Ashes and can then choose whether or not to put their hands up to play. England’s squad is expected to be named next month.
