A GREEN THUMB’S HEAVEN

- AMANDA PARKINSON

PACK up your old plastic pots, put a trolley in the car and head down to the Darwin Botanical Gardens nursery to pick up some of the 20,000 plants for sale.

The Friends of Darwin Botanical Gardens annual plant sale is happening on Sunday and will again put all profits back into the public gardens.

Committee member Peter Knibbs said all plants had been propagated and grown in the nursery by volunteers.

“We have some really unique plants that you can’t buy in nurseries because they aren’t commercially viable,” Mr Knibbs said.

Members of the volunteer gardening group will be on hand to help buyers choose the best plants for their homes.

The event has become a staple in the Darwin calendar after running for almost 20 years and continues to be well attended.

The sale will run from 8am-noon at the botanical gardens nursery.
