Police to oppose teen’s bail

- THOMAS MORGAN

POLICE have slammed the “abhorrent behaviour” of a 19year-old man who allegedly threw a rock at police while drunk.

The Alice Springs man was spoken to by police at a licensed premises on Gregory Tce early Saturday due to “disorderly behaviour”, police said in a statement.

Police allege he then threw a rock at an officer, striking him on his back.

After being taken into police custody, the teen allegedly spat on the uniform of another officer.

He is further alleged to have struck a policewoman while in custody.

Senior Sergeant Jared Porch said the 19-year-old had been charged with one count of disorderly conduct in a public place, disorderly behaviour in a police station and three counts of assaulting a member of the police.

Bail will be strongly opposed.

“Police members are putting their lives on the line every day to protect our community,” Sergeant Porch said.
